How much BTC do you get for XRP?
GhostSwap quotes at 2 Nov 2026, 19:02 UTC, after the service fee and the cost of sending the BTC to your wallet.
The rate floats with the market until your XRP deposit confirms.
Paying the XRP: deposit address, tag and sender
Once you confirm the swap, you get a one-time XRP deposit address that starts with r. If a Destination Tag is shown next to it, copy that number exactly into the tag field of your wallet before you sign. The tag is how your payment is matched to this swap, so a missing or mistyped one is the main way an XRP deposit goes wrong.
Pay from a wallet whose keys you hold, such as Xaman or a Ledger, and put that same r-address in the sender field. Paying straight from a trading platform is risky here: its withdrawal leaves from a shared address, and a refund sent back there may never reach your balance. Xaman shows the tag field on the payment form; on a Ledger, the tag appears on the device for you to check before you approve.
Send the amount the box shows in one payment. The XRP Ledger closes a new ledger every few seconds, and a payment in a validated ledger is final, so the deposit is confirmed almost as soon as you send it.
Why you cannot swap your whole XRP balance
Every XRP account keeps a base reserve that the network locks for as long as the account exists. Each trust line, open offer or other object on the account locks a little more. Xaman shows the spendable amount next to the total, and that smaller figure is the most you can send.
This catches people who want to move everything into bitcoin. The reserve stays behind in the r-address even after the swap, so plan on swapping the spendable part and leaving the rest. Removing trust lines you no longer use frees their share of the reserve. Deleting an account entirely is possible on the XRP Ledger, but it has its own conditions and cost, and it is not needed for a swap.
Leave a little above the reserve too. The network fee for the payment is tiny and is destroyed by the ledger rather than paid to anyone, but it still has to come out of spendable XRP.
The BTC payout: unconfirmed first, then one block at a time
The payout is native bitcoin, sent to the address you entered: bc1q, bc1p, 3 or 1 all work. It appears in your wallet as soon as it is broadcast, marked unconfirmed, and gets its first confirmation when the next Bitcoin block includes it. Blocks come about every 10 minutes on average, though single gaps can be much longer.
That difference in pace surprises people coming from the XRP Ledger, where a payment is either in a validated ledger or not. On Bitcoin, each new block on top makes a payment harder to reverse, which is why some services wait for several confirmations before they credit BTC. For coins in your own wallet, one confirmation is usually enough to spend them.
If you keep the BTC on a hardware wallet, show the receive address on the device and compare it with what you paste. Search that address on mempool.space to watch the payout move from unconfirmed to confirmed.
XRP Ledger and Bitcoin compared
| XRP Ledger (XRP) | Bitcoin (BTC) | |
|---|---|---|
| Settlement | A new ledger every 3 to 5 seconds | A block about every 10 minutes |
| Finality | Final once the ledger is validated | Grows with each block on top |
| Transaction fee | Tiny, destroyed by the network | Paid to miners, priced per virtual byte |
| Address | r prefix | bc1, 3 or 1 prefix |
| Shared accounts | Told apart by a Destination Tag | Each deposit gets its own address |
| Account reserve | Yes, locked XRP per account | None |
These differences explain the details of this swap: the tag on the XRP side, the reserve you cannot send, and the short wait for a Bitcoin block on the payout side. For a longer comparison of the two networks, read XRP vs Bitcoin.
Refunds and support for XRP to BTC
If a swap cannot be completed, the coins are refunded to the sender address you entered. On this pair that is your r-address, and the refund arrives as XRP on the XRP Ledger. If your wallet only accepts payments with a tag, or if you entered an exchange address, a refund may not land where you expect, which is one more reason to use your own Xaman or Ledger account.
Keep the swap ID. Its status page shows the deposit, the exchange step and the BTC payout. You can check the deposit on XRPSCAN by searching your r-address: a successful payment shows the amount, the deposit address and the tag you used. If XRPSCAN shows the payment as successful and the status page has not moved for a long time, email support@ghostswap.io with the swap ID, the XRP transaction hash and the tag. Do not pay the deposit address a second time.
Why people convert XRP into Bitcoin
XRP is built to move value quickly, and many holders use it that way: they receive XRP for a payment, or hold it for a while, then move part of it into bitcoin to keep. BTC has a fixed supply of 21 million coins and is the coin more hardware wallets, merchants and savings plans support, so it is a common destination for a longer horizon.
Others need BTC for one reason: paying someone who only accepts bitcoin, or funding a Bitcoin-only wallet such as Sparrow. A swap does that in one step from your own XRP wallet, without opening an exchange account and trading through an order book. The rate comes from aggregated liquidity from leading crypto markets and floats with the market until the XRP deposit confirms, which on this ledger takes seconds, so the quote you see is very close to what you get.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out the Destination Tag when one is shown with the XRP deposit address.
- Trying to send the full XRP balance, including the reserve the ledger keeps locked.
- Paying from an exchange account and entering its shared r-address as the sender.
- Pasting an r-address or an X-address into the Bitcoin payout field.
- Expecting the BTC to be final in seconds, the way XRP payments are.
