There are four main routes to Monero (XMR). Three usually need no account or ID: instant non-custodial swap services such as GhostSwap, peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplaces such as Haveno and Bisq 1, and atomic-swap DEXs such as BasicSwap and eigenwallet. The fourth route, centralised exchanges, needs an account and ID checks, and several have dropped XMR.
The four ways to get Monero without KYC
| Route | Account / ID | Who holds funds during the trade | Typical speed | Fiat support | Skill needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instant non-custodial swap | Usually none. GhostSwap: no account, no email and no ID for standard swaps. | The service handles your deposit for that one swap and pays the coins to your own wallet. No account balance is kept. | Minutes to about an hour, mostly waiting for deposit confirmations | No, crypto to crypto | Low: paste an address and send the deposit |
| P2P marketplace | No account or ID. For fiat trades you share payment details with your trade partner. | Multisig escrow. Haveno uses 2-of-3 keys with an arbitrator; Bisq 1 uses 2-of-2 with deposits from both traders. | Under an hour to several days, set by the payment method | Yes on Haveno networks (bank transfer, payment apps, cash). Bisq 1 trades XMR for BTC only. | Medium: desktop app, security deposit, trade chat |
| Atomic-swap DEX | None | No third party. Each side’s coins are locked on their own chain until the swap completes or is refunded. | Usually 30 minutes or more, set by confirmations on both chains | No | Higher: wallets for both coins, and the app must be online to finish or refund a swap |
| Centralised exchange | Account plus ID verification | The exchange holds your balance | Fast trades once verified; ID checks can take days | Yes, where XMR is still listed | Low, but XMR is unavailable in many regions |
If you already hold BTC, ETH or USDT, an instant swap is the shortest route. If you want to pay by bank transfer, payment app or cash, a P2P marketplace is the main no-ID option. Atomic swaps suit people who run their own wallets and want no middle party at all. To buy XMR with a card or bank account, see how to buy Monero.
Monero options by name
Versions, fees and regional availability change often. Confirm the details on each project’s own site before you trade.
| Option | Type | Account needed | Notes | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haveno / RetoSwap | P2P marketplace (desktop; RetoSwap also on Android) | No account, no ID | Haveno is open-source P2P software, and RetoSwap is a public network that runs it. Trades XMR for fiat or crypto. Funds sit in 2-of-3 multisig, and the arbitrator holds only one key. Most offers need a security deposit; buyers can take passphrase-protected no-deposit offers up to 1.5 XMR. RetoSwap fees: 0.1% maker, 0.8% crypto taker, 2% fiat taker. RetoSwap halted trading after Haveno protocol exploits on 20 May and 16 June 2026. Haveno v1.8.0 (20 June 2026) added security fixes, and RetoSwap shipped it the same day and resumed trading. | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Bisq 1 | P2P marketplace (desktop) | No account, no ID | Bisq 1 trades XMR against BTC only. Both traders lock a BTC security deposit, and altcoin trades are capped at 0.25 BTC. A protocol exploit on 1 May 2026 hit altcoin trades. XMR auto-confirmation has been off since v1.10.0. Version 1.10.9 (1 Oct 2026) is required to keep trading. | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Bisq 2 | P2P marketplace (desktop; Android app for Bisq Easy) | No account, no ID | No XMR trading yet. Only Bisq Easy (BTC for fiat) is live. A BTC–XMR swap protocol is on the roadmap with no date. Latest release: v2.1.13 (15 Sep 2026). The May 2026 Bisq 1 exploit did not affect Bisq 2. | 2 Oct 2026 |
| BasicSwap | Atomic-swap DEX (self-hosted app) | No account, no ID | BasicSwap is non-custodial and charges no trading fee beyond network fees, per its README. Swaps XMR with BTC, LTC and other listed coins. You set up a wallet for each coin. Several 2026 releases added security hardening. Latest release: v0.18.10 (29 Sep 2026). | 2 Oct 2026 |
| eigenwallet | Atomic-swap app and Monero wallet (Windows, macOS, Linux) | No account, no ID | eigenwallet was formerly called UnstoppableSwap. It swaps BTC to XMR only, and independent makers set their own rates. If a swap fails, open the app during the 24-hour refund window or you can lose the BTC. Latest stable release: 4.15.0 (22 Sep 2026). | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Cake Wallet | Wallet with built-in exchange (mobile and desktop) | No wallet account | Cake Wallet is an open-source, non-custodial wallet for XMR, BTC, ETH, LTC and more. Cake does not run the exchange itself: in-app swaps go to third-party providers, and the rate is shown before you confirm. Latest release: v6.4.5 (20 Sep 2026). | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Feather Wallet | Monero desktop wallet (Linux, Windows, macOS) | No account | Feather is a free, open-source, XMR-only wallet with built-in Tor. It has no in-app swaps: the LocalMonero plugin was removed in 2.6.8 (August 2024), and its feature list marks atomic swaps as not planned. Fund it by sending XMR to a fresh subaddress. Latest release: 2.8.1 (14 Apr 2025). | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Kraken | Centralised exchange | Verified account (KYC) | XMR is not available in the EEA (since 31 Oct 2024), the UK, Canada (trading off since 2 Sep 2025) or Australia. Kraken also delisted XMR for clients in India (April 2026) and the UAE (June 2026). | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Binance | Centralised exchange | Verified account (KYC) | No XMR. Binance delisted XMR on 20 Feb 2024, and XMR withdrawals ended on 20 May 2024. | 2 Oct 2026 |
| Coinbase | Centralised exchange | Verified account (KYC) | No XMR. Coinbase has never listed it, and its Monero page says XMR is not tradable on Coinbase. | 2 Oct 2026 |
| LocalMonero | P2P marketplace (closed) | n/a | Closed. It announced its wind-down on 7 May 2024 and stopped new trades on 14 May 2024. The site is now an archive page. | 2 Oct 2026 |
How we compared
We checked every option against the same points:
- Account or ID needed to trade XMR
- Who holds the funds while a trade is open
- Supported XMR pairs, including fiat
- Fees as published by each project
- Recent security incidents
- Date of the last release or status notice
Each row links to the project’s own site, release notes or support notice in its Notes cell. For a wider directory, see the Monero project’s Merchants & Exchanges page. GhostSwap publishes this page and runs an instant swap service.

Frequently asked questions
Which exchanges accept Monero (XMR)?
Monero is traded on instant swap services, on P2P marketplaces such as Haveno networks and Bisq 1, on atomic-swap DEXs such as BasicSwap and eigenwallet, and on a few centralised exchanges such as Kraken in the regions where it still offers XMR. Binance delisted XMR in February 2024, and Coinbase has never listed it. The tables on this page show the account needs and recent changes for each option.
Are there any non-KYC crypto exchanges?
Yes: P2P marketplaces and atomic-swap DEXs need no account or ID, and many instant swap services need none for standard swaps. They differ in custody and speed. An instant swap pays out to your wallet in one step, a P2P market locks funds in multisig with a trade partner, and an atomic swap locks coins on-chain until both sides finish or a refund is made. Centralised exchanges almost always require ID.
What replaced LocalMonero?
No single service replaced LocalMonero, but Haveno is the closest match: open-source P2P software for trading XMR for cash, bank transfers or crypto with no account. RetoSwap is a public Haveno network with desktop and Android apps. LocalMonero stopped new trades on 14 May 2024, and its closing notice mentioned Haveno and other decentralised exchanges. Bisq 1 also trades XMR, but only against BTC.
Already hold Bitcoin? Swap BTC to XMR without an account. GhostSwap needs no account, no email and no ID for standard swaps, uses a floating rate, and pays the XMR to your own wallet.
