Which USDT network do you want to receive?
USDT exists on several networks, and each one is a different coin to the exchange. Pick the one your receiving wallet uses:
- Tron (TRC20): addresses start with T. Sending it on later needs a little TRX (or energy). BTC to USDT TRC20 (this page)
- Ethereum (ERC20): addresses start with 0x. Sending it on later needs ETH for gas. BTC to USDT ERC20
- BNB Smart Chain (BEP20): addresses also start with 0x. Sending it on later needs BNB for gas. BTC to USDT BEP20
- Solana: addresses are long base58 strings with no 0x prefix. Sending it on later needs a little SOL. BTC to USDT SOL
Never enter a TRC20 address for an ERC20 or BEP20 payout, or the other way round.

Why Bitcoin holders pick TRC20 Tether
Turning BTC into USDT pins a dollar figure on part of your stack. Picking TRC20 is about what you do with those dollars next. Much of the Tether used in daily life travels over Tron: peer-to-peer trades, payments to freelancers and suppliers, money sent to family. When someone asks to be paid in USDT and gives you an address starting with T, this is the pair that matches it.
The other reason is cost after the swap. A TRC20 transfer is settled in energy and bandwidth, with a little TRX burned if the account has no energy, and that usually costs far less than Ethereum gas. Planning to pass the money along in several smaller payments? Tron keeps each one inexpensive.
If the dollars are meant for Ethereum apps instead, BTC to USDT ERC20 pays to an 0x address. Our guide to turning BTC into a stablecoin runs through the options.
The Bitcoin deposit and the moment your dollar amount is set
The USDT figure depends on the Bitcoin price at the time your deposit confirms, not when you open the swap. The rate comes from aggregated liquidity from leading crypto markets and keeps floating until the BTC has one to three confirmations. Blocks average roughly ten minutes apart, though some gaps run far longer.
Your wallet sets the network fee in sat/vB, and that fee decides how soon a miner picks up the deposit. When you are swapping to step out of a falling price, a cheap fee that leaves you waiting can cost more than it saves. Check mempool.space and choose a rate for the next block or two. Sparrow and Electrum can bump a stuck transaction with Replace-by-Fee.
The deposit must be an ordinary on-chain Bitcoin payment. Lightning invoices and wrapped BTC on other chains cannot reach it. Once it has confirmed, most swaps finish within minutes.
Your Tron address, and the TRX it will need later
The payout field takes a Tron address: a capital T and 34 characters, as shown in TronLink or Trust Wallet. An 0x string is an Ethereum-style address and will not take TRC20 Tether, so in an app that holds several chains, copy from the Tron account specifically.
Receiving the Tether costs your address nothing, and a brand-new T-address works. Spending it is where people get caught. Tron only activates an account after some TRX has landed in it, and each outgoing USDT transfer draws on energy and bandwidth. With no TRX and no staked energy, the USDT simply will not move. A small swap through BTC to TRX to the same address fixes that.
The real token is Tether's TRC-20 contract TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t on Tronscan. As with USDT everywhere, Tether keeps the ability to freeze tokens sitting at a given address; Bitcoin has no issuer and no such switch.
What each side of the swap asks of you
| Bitcoin (you send) | USDT TRC20 (you get) | |
|---|---|---|
| Address you give | Sender and refund, bc1, 3 or 1 | Payout, T plus 33 characters |
| Fee you pay yourself | Bitcoin miner fee, set in your wallet | None to receive; TRX or energy to send later |
| Confirmation | One to three blocks | About a minute |
| Wallets | Sparrow, Electrum, a hardware wallet | TronLink, Trust Wallet |
| Where to check | mempool.space | Tronscan |
Nearly all of the waiting happens in the left column. The Tron payout, once sent, settles in about a minute, and the status page links both transactions so you can follow them. The only fee you set yourself is the Bitcoin one; the quote already nets out the service fee together with sending the USDT on Tron, so the USDT figure shown is what reaches your T-address.
Small amounts and choosing the right USDT
Plenty of people use this pair for modest sums, for example to fund a $20 deposit that a service only accepts in TRC20. That works as long as the BTC amount clears the pair's minimum, which the box shows as you type. Remember the Bitcoin miner fee is flat per transaction, so on a very small swap it is a bigger share of what you send.
Pick the network before you paste anything. The exchange box lists USDT TRC20, USDT ERC20, USDT BEP20 and USDT on Solana separately, because each is its own token. TRC20 needs a T-address; the ERC20 and BEP20 versions pay to 0x addresses, and the Solana one to a base58 address. Choosing the right one up front saves a second swap.
If what you actually want is Tron's coin rather than dollars, BTC to TRX is the direct route.
Refunds, tracking and support
A refund always goes to the Bitcoin sender address you enter, so make it one you control. Should the swap fail to complete, the BTC is sent back there. A withdrawal straight from an exchange account comes from a shared wallet, and BTC returned to it can end up lost to you.
The swap ID gives you a tracking page for deposit, exchange and payout. Your deposit shows on mempool.space by its transaction ID; the USDT payout shows on Tronscan once sent. If mempool.space has your deposit confirmed but the tracking page has stood on the same step for a long time, mail support@ghostswap.io with the swap ID and the Bitcoin transaction ID. Do not resend the BTC while you wait.
Common mistakes
- Pasting an 0x address from a multi-chain wallet when the TRC20 payout needs the Tron T-address.
- Picking USDT ERC20 or BEP20 in the box when the person you are paying asked for TRC20.
- Leaving the new Tron address without any TRX, so the USDT cannot be sent anywhere.
- Setting a very low Bitcoin fee when you are trying to lock in a price quickly.
- Funding the deposit from a trading platform's withdrawal, which leaves you without a refund address of your own.
