XMR to BTC: Swap Monero for Bitcoin Without KYC
Choose XMR and BTC, enter your Bitcoin payout address (bc1, 3 or 1) together with one of your Monero addresses as the refund address, and pay the XMR to the deposit address once your wallet is fully synced. The swap waits for 10 Monero confirmations, about 20 minutes, and then the BTC is sent, with no account or ID involved.

How do I exchange XMR to BTC?
Pick XMR and BTC
Pick XMR in “You send” and BTC in “You get”, then enter the amount. The box shows how much BTC you get after all fees, and the minimum for this pair.
Paste your Bitcoin address
Paste the Bitcoin address that should receive the BTC: it starts with bc1, 3 or 1. Wallets that work: Sparrow, Electrum or a hardware wallet. Then enter the Monero address you send XMR from; a refund, if ever needed, goes there.
Send XMR on Monero
Send exactly the amount shown from your own Monero wallet to the one-time deposit address, on the Monero network.
Receive BTC
Your BTC is paid out once your XMR deposit confirms, and Bitcoin then confirms it in one to three blocks. Most swaps finish within minutes. The exact time depends on how fast each network confirms your deposit. Follow each step on the status page with your swap ID.
Get your Monero wallet ready before sending
A Monero wallet has to scan every new block to know which coins are still yours. If Feather, Cake Wallet or Monero GUI is still catching up, the balance it shows may be out of date, and a payment built from that view can be refused by the network. Wait until the wallet reports that it is fully synchronised, then create the transfer.
The Monero network fee comes out of your wallet in XMR, on top of the amount in the quote. It is small and depends on the size of the transaction and the priority you pick, so keep a little XMR spare rather than trying to send your exact balance.
After you send, part of your balance may show as locked. Monero spends whole outputs and returns the remainder to you as change, and that change, like any received output, cannot be spent for 10 blocks. That is normal and clears by itself in about 20 minutes.
Why the XMR deposit needs 10 confirmations
A Monero block is mined about every 2 minutes. The swap treats your deposit as final after 10 of them, which is about 20 minutes in total, and only then does the BTC go out. Waiting that long protects against a block being replaced, which would make a payment vanish from the chain.
During that time the status page shows the deposit as received and waiting for confirmations. Leave it alone. A repeat XMR payment changes nothing for the first one and becomes a separate deposit that support has to untangle.
Once the confirmations are in, most swaps finish within minutes. The BTC is then broadcast to the Bitcoin network, where you can watch it on mempool.space with the transaction ID from the status page. The quote already accounts for the cost of sending the Bitcoin payout, so the BTC amount shown in the box is what reaches your address.
Which Bitcoin address to paste
The payout is an ordinary on-chain Bitcoin transaction. Any standard address format works, from a wallet such as Sparrow, Electrum or a hardware wallet:
| Starts with | Type | Accepted for the payout |
|---|---|---|
| bc1q | Native SegWit | Yes |
| bc1p | Taproot | Yes |
| 3 | Nested SegWit or multisig (P2SH) | Yes |
| 1 | Legacy | Yes |
| lnbc | Lightning invoice | No, use an on-chain address |
If you want the BTC on Lightning, receive it on-chain first and open a channel or use your wallet's swap-in feature afterwards.
Generate the address in the wallet that will keep the coins and paste it with the copy button. Hardware wallets let you check the address on the device itself, which protects against clipboard malware that swaps one address for another. A wrong character makes the address invalid, but a replaced address looks perfectly normal, so compare the first and last few characters before you confirm the swap.
Keeping the Bitcoin you receive apart from your history
The moment the BTC lands, it is public. The receiving address, the amount and every later movement are visible to anyone. What protects you is that nothing on the Bitcoin chain shows where the coins came from, so it pays to keep it that way.
Receive to an address that has never been used, ideally in a wallet that holds no coins from an exchange account in your name. If you later spend these coins together with older ones in one transaction, the two sets become linked on-chain for good. Sparrow's coin control lets you pick exactly which coins a payment uses, and you can label the swap payout so you don't mix it in by accident. Using Sparrow with Monero swaps walks through the setup.
Round amounts and quick follow-up payments are also easy to match up. Waiting a while and spending different amounts makes the link much weaker.
Refund address and proof of payment
Monero does not reveal where a payment came from, so the swap has no way to see your wallet from the deposit alone. That is why you enter a Monero address for refunds. If a swap cannot be completed, the XMR is refunded to the sender address you entered. Use a subaddress from your own wallet, not an address you were given by an exchange or a shop.
If you need help, email support@ghostswap.io with the swap ID and the Monero transaction ID. Monero GUI and Feather can also show the transaction key for any payment you sent; together with the transaction ID it proves the deposit went to the right address, which an explorer alone cannot show.
Keep the swap ID and the transaction ID until the BTC has confirmed. The status page shows every step, including the Bitcoin transaction ID once the payout is sent.
Why people swap Monero to Bitcoin
Bitcoin is still the coin most merchants, freelancers, hardware wallets and payment tools accept, and Monero is not. Swapping XMR to BTC is how many Monero holders pay a bill, fund a Lightning wallet, or move savings into cold storage on a device that only supports Bitcoin.
With many exchanges having dropped Monero (the delistings tracker lists them), fewer places will take XMR in at all, and a swap needs no account where a listing has been removed. The XMR stays private until the moment it is swapped; from then on the coins follow Bitcoin's public rules. Cashing out Monero without KYC covers what to do with the BTC next.
Some people also move between the two coins in both directions over time, holding XMR for privacy and swapping a slice to BTC only when a payment is due. That keeps most of the balance off the public chain and limits what any one Bitcoin address reveals.
Common mistakes with XMR to BTC
- Sending from a Monero wallet that has not finished syncing, so the transfer is rejected or shows the wrong balance.
- Pasting a Lightning invoice instead of an on-chain Bitcoin address.
- Receiving the BTC at an address you have already used for exchange withdrawals in your name.
- Leaving the refund field with an exchange's Monero address instead of one from your own wallet.
- Sending the XMR a second time because the deposit is still waiting for its 10 confirmations.
