ETH to USDT ERC20: Convert Ethereum to Tether, No KYC

This is one of the few pairs where nothing leaves its blockchain. You send native ETH from a 0x address, and USDT arrives as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, usually at a 0x address in the same wallet. MetaMask, Rabby and a Ledger's Ethereum account all hold both.

ETH pays the gas for its own transfer. Your wallet adds the network fee on top of the amount, so you cannot send your entire balance: leave enough for the fee, or the wallet will refuse the transaction. A plain ETH transfer uses less gas than a token transfer, which makes the deposit side of this pair cheap compared with sending a token in.

Etherscan lists the deposit the moment it is broadcast, and it is confirmed roughly 2 to 5 minutes later. After that, most swaps finish within minutes, with the Tether payout needing roughly the same confirmation time on its way back to you.

The most common regret with this pair is converting every last ETH. USDT on Ethereum cannot pay its own gas. Each time you send it, the wallet charges a fee in ETH. A wallet with Tether and no ETH can receive more, but it cannot send any of it until you top it up.

So decide before you swap how much ETH to keep. One or two token transfers' worth of gas is a sensible floor, and more if you plan to use Ethereum apps with the Tether. The cost depends on network load, not on the size of the payment, so check the current gas level in your wallet.

If you swap to a separate 0x address from a fresh wallet, that address starts with zero ETH. In that case either keep the payout in your main wallet, or send a little ETH to the new one first. Our guide to gas fees explains how to pick a quiet moment.

ERC20 makes sense when the Tether stays in the Ethereum world: you already hold ETH for gas, you use Ethereum apps, or the person you pay asked for ERC-20. If the USDT is meant for many small transfers and you hold no ETH afterwards, Tron is usually cheaper to move. BEP20 shares the 0x format with this page, so check the pair name, not just the address. Whichever row you choose, the ETH deposit itself is identical; only the payout chain changes.

The payout is the Tether contract on Ethereum mainnet. In MetaMask it normally appears by itself; if it does not, import the token using the contract address from Tether's official site or the verified token page on Etherscan. Tokens named USDT from other contracts are imitations and have no link to this payout.

If your wallet is set to a different network, such as BNB Smart Chain or an Ethereum layer-2, the balance will not appear there. Switch to Ethereum mainnet and it shows up.

Searching for "USDT (ERC20) to USDT" usually comes from this confusion. USDT (ERC20) is simply our name for Tether on Ethereum. If you need it on another chain later, that is a separate swap, for example USDT ERC20 to USDT TRC20, or see swapping between TRC20 and ERC20.

Swapping ETH to USDT turns a volatile balance into one that tracks the dollar, without moving the coins to an exchange account. People do it to keep a gain, to set money aside for a payment, or to wait out a drop and switch back later. Because the payout is on the same chain, it can stay in the wallet you already use.

Know what you are holding afterwards. The issuer, Tether, keeps the ability to freeze the USDT sitting in a given wallet, on Ethereum as on its other chains. Ethereum is a public ledger, so the ETH leaving and the USDT arriving can be linked by anyone who looks at your address on Etherscan. If a swap cannot be completed, we return the ETH to the Ethereum sender address you entered. Make that an address you control. ETH withdrawn from an exchange comes from a shared wallet, so a refund sent there may not reach your account.

Very small swaps, like the 0.00001 ETH some people try, fall below the pair's minimum. The box shows the smallest ETH amount it accepts, and a deposit under that figure cannot be swapped. Gas would also take a large share of a deposit that small.

When Etherscan says the ETH arrived but the status page stays frozen for a long stretch, email support@ghostswap.io with the swap ID and the deposit hash together. A pending deposit can usually be sped up in MetaMask with a higher fee; do not send a second payment.
