Quick answer: Yes, you can get USDT without an ID check, as long as you already hold some crypto.
- Swap it. Send BTC, ETH, XMR, LTC or another coin to a no-account swap service such as GhostSwap and receive USDT in your own wallet.
- Trade with a person on a peer-to-peer app such as RetoSwap or Bisq, or use a DEX (Uniswap, SunSwap) if your coins are already on Ethereum or Tron.
- Paying by card or bank transfer almost always means the provider checks your ID.
- Match the network. USDT TRC-20 needs a Tron address that starts with T.
Can you buy USDT without KYC?
Yes, if you already own crypto. Usually not, if you want to pay with a card or a bank account.
ID checks (“know your customer”, or KYC) happen where bank money enters crypto. MoonPay, a card on-ramp, asks for a passport, national ID card or driving licence, plus a liveness check or selfie, when you place an order. Kraken says that once you’re verified, you can buy crypto and deposit cash, and verification generally takes a government-issued ID and proof of address. Tether itself only issues and redeems USDT for verified customers.
So the no-ID routes are crypto to crypto: a swap with no account, a trade with another person on a peer-to-peer (P2P) app, or a DEX.
Ways to get USDT without ID, compared
| Method | ID check | What you need first | USDT networks | Costs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swap on GhostSwap | None for standard swaps: no account, email or ID | BTC, ETH, XMR, LTC or another of 1,600+ coins in your own wallet | Tron (TRC-20), Ethereum (ERC-20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), Solana | Floating rate with the payout network fee included in the quote; your wallet pays the deposit fee |
| RetoSwap (a Haveno network) | None: Haveno says it “is and will always be non-KYC” | XMR to sell, plus the RetoSwap app | USDT-TRC20 and USDT-ERC20, traded against XMR | 0.1% maker or 0.8% crypto taker fee, plus a security deposit unless you take a no-deposit offer |
| Bisq 1 | None: “No Identity Verification” | BTC, including some for the security deposit; the desktop app | USDT-E (ERC-20), traded against BTC | Trading fee, Bitcoin mining fees and a refundable deposit |
| DEX: Uniswap (Ethereum) or SunSwap (Tron) | None: you connect your own wallet | Tokens already on that chain, plus ETH or TRX for fees | ERC-20 on Uniswap, TRC-20 on SunSwap | Pool fee, plus ETH gas on Ethereum, or energy and bandwidth on Tron (TRX is burned if you have none) |
| Card or bank on an exchange or on-ramp | Yes, by the provider | A card or bank account in your name | Depends on the provider | Card or bank fees, shown before you pay |
A few things the table doesn’t show:
- P2P apps trade against one coin. On RetoSwap, every trade is XMR against something else, so you sell XMR to a person who pays you USDT. On Bisq 1, altcoins trade against BTC. Both apps also let you buy XMR or BTC from people with ordinary money (fiat), which you can then swap into USDT.
- DEXs need fee coins first. On Ethereum, Uniswap swaps need ETH for gas, and SunSwap swaps on Tron use energy. That makes a DEX a good fit if you already hold ETH or TRX, and a poor first step if you don’t.
How do I buy USDT without KYC on GhostSwap?
GhostSwap is a no-KYC crypto exchange: there’s no account, and we never ask for your name, email, phone number or identity documents to start a swap. You send a coin from your own wallet, and the USDT is paid straight to your own wallet address. Rates are floating, and network fees are included in the quote.
Here’s the flow for Bitcoin to USDT on Tron.
- Get a Tron address. Open a wallet you control, such as TronLink or Trust Wallet, and copy your Tron address. It starts with T and is 34 characters long. In a multi-chain wallet, copy the address listed under Tron, not the 0x one.
- Open the pair. Go to BTC to USDT TRC20 and enter how much BTC you want to send. The exchange box shows the USDT you’ll receive, the network fee, and the minimum and maximum for the pair.
- Paste your Tron address as the receiving address.
- Enter your sender address. This is the Bitcoin address you send from. If the swap can’t complete, the BTC is refunded there.
- Send the BTC to the one-time deposit address shown.
- Track the swap. It has an ID and a status page. Most BTC to USDT TRC-20 swaps are paid out within 20 to 60 minutes, mostly spent waiting for Bitcoin confirmations. Tron confirms the payout in about a minute.
Start with a small test amount, and check the address twice. Blockchain transfers can’t be reversed.
Other coins work the same way:
| You send | Pair | Typical swap time | Minimum (from the pair page) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | BTC to USDT TRC20 | 20 to 60 minutes | About 0.00037 BTC (18 Oct 2026) |
| Ethereum (ETH) | ETH to USDT TRC20 | 10 to 25 minutes | About 0.012 ETH (9 Oct 2026) |
| Monero (XMR) | XMR to USDT TRC20 | 20 to 60 minutes | About 0.054 XMR (8 Oct 2026) |
| Litecoin (LTC) | LTC to USDT TRC20 | 15 to 35 minutes | About 0.49 LTC (12 Oct 2026) |
Minimums move with the market, and the exchange box shows the live limits before you send. Very rarely, a deposit is paused for a short review before the swap runs. The help pages explain what happens then.
TRC-20 or ERC-20: which USDT network should you pick?
Tether issues USDT on many blockchains, including Ethereum, Tron, Solana, TON and Avalanche, and each version lives only on its own chain. It has stopped supporting USDT on Omni, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand.
The rule that matters most: send and receive on the same network. If someone asks for “USDT TRC20”, they need a Tron address that starts with T. If an exchange gives you an ERC-20 deposit address, it expects USDT on Ethereum. Kraken’s help centre warns that deposits sent on unsupported networks are “likely non-recoverable”.
Watch out for 0x addresses. Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain addresses look the same: 0x followed by 40 characters. A pasted address doesn’t tell you which chain it’s on, so pick the network in the exchange box and in your wallet.
| USDT TRC-20 (Tron) | USDT ERC-20 (Ethereum) | |
|---|---|---|
| Address format | Starts with T, 34 characters | Starts with 0x, then 40 hex characters |
| Fees paid with | Energy and bandwidth; TRX is burned for any shortfall | ETH (gas) |
| What the fee depends on | Your staked or delegated energy; without it, TRX is burned at the network’s current price | How busy the network is: users bid higher to get into a block |
| GhostSwap payout confirms in | About a minute | About 2 to 5 minutes |
| Tether contract | TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t | 0xdac17f958d2ee523a2206206994597c13d831ec7 |
| From BTC on GhostSwap | BTC to USDT TRC20 | BTC to USDT ERC20 |
Which should you choose? Pick the network your recipient or exchange uses. If the USDT is for you, pick the one your wallet supports and where you can pay the fee: TRX on Tron, ETH on Ethereum. If you end up on the wrong one, USDT ERC20 to TRC20 moves your dollars from Ethereum to Tron in a single swap.
To check you received real Tether, open the payout in a block explorer and compare the token contract with the one in the table.
Do you need TRX to send USDT on Tron?
Receiving USDT on Tron costs you nothing. Sending it does.
- Bandwidth. Every Tron transaction uses bandwidth. Each activated account gets 600 free bandwidth a day.
- Energy. Smart-contract calls, such as a USDT transfer, also use energy. There is no free energy: you get it by staking TRX or having it delegated to you.
- The fallback. When you don’t have enough of either, the network burns TRX from your address to cover the gap.
In practice, keep a small amount of TRX in the same address before you plan to move your USDT. Some wallets also offer paid energy rental. If you hold no TRX, BTC to TRX works the same way as the USDT swap above.
Can Tether freeze your USDT?
Yes. USDT is issued by a company, and Tether can freeze the USDT held at a specific address so it can’t be moved. Its terms of service say it may freeze Tether tokens “as required by applicable Law” or where it “determines it is prudent”, and may blacklist addresses.
Tether does this often, usually at the request of authorities:
- January 2026: more than $182 million in USDT frozen across five Tron addresses, after “a formal request from law enforcement authorities” (The Block).
- April and July 2026: more than $344 million across two addresses, in coordination with the US Treasury’s sanctions office (OFAC) and US law enforcement, then more than $130 million across four more Tron addresses (Tether).
- Overall: Tether says it works with more than 340 law enforcement agencies in 70 countries, and that these efforts have led to more than $5 billion in assets being frozen.
This is a property of the token itself, so it applies to every USDT, however you got it.
Can you buy USDT with a card without KYC?
Rarely. Card on-ramps and exchanges check who is paying, as the MoonPay and Kraken examples above show.
If an ID check is fine for you, GhostSwap’s buy crypto page lets you pay by card through third-party providers, and the coins go to your own wallet. The provider runs its own checks. From there you can swap into USDT on the network you need. For more on card routes, see buying crypto with a credit card.
FAQ
Can I buy USDT without KYC? Yes, if you already hold crypto. Swap BTC, ETH, XMR, LTC or another coin into USDT on a no-account service such as GhostSwap, or trade with a person on RetoSwap or Bisq. Buying with a card or bank transfer almost always needs ID.
Should I pick USDT TRC-20 or ERC-20? Pick the network your recipient or wallet uses. TRC-20 needs a Tron address that starts with T, plus TRX or energy to send it on. ERC-20 needs an Ethereum 0x address and ETH for gas. The choice doesn’t change whether you need ID.
How long does a BTC to USDT swap take on GhostSwap? Most BTC to USDT TRC-20 swaps are paid out within 20 to 60 minutes, mostly spent waiting for Bitcoin confirmations. ETH to USDT TRC-20 usually takes 10 to 25 minutes.
Why can’t I send the USDT I received on Tron? Your address probably has no TRX. Sending USDT on Tron uses energy and bandwidth, and when you don’t have enough, the network burns TRX. Add a little TRX to the same address, or stake TRX for energy.
Can Tether freeze USDT I got without KYC? Yes. Tether can freeze USDT at any address and has done so many times at the request of law enforcement. How you got the USDT doesn’t change this.
Is buying USDT without KYC legal? It depends on where you live. Rules on crypto and stablecoins differ by country and change over time. Follow your local laws and tax rules, and keep records of your swaps.
