ADA to XMR: Swap Cardano for Monero Without KYC

A Cardano wallet often holds more than ADA. Native tokens, NFTs and stablecoins issued on Cardano all live in the same addr1 address, and Eternl, Lace or VESPR will let you attach them to any payment. The deposit address on this pair accepts ADA alone. Tokens added to the transaction are not part of the swap and are not converted to XMR, so build the payment with ADA as the only asset.

Cardano also requires every output to carry a small amount of ADA, so a wallet full of tokens keeps some ADA tied up next to them. That is why the spendable figure in your wallet can be lower than the total. Send the exact ADA amount the box quotes and let the wallet handle the change.

On top of that amount, your wallet pays a small Cardano fee in ADA. Cardano prices a transaction by its byte count, so a simple ADA-only transfer is also the cheapest one. You can follow it on Cardanoscan with the transaction hash.

Delegation leaves ADA fully spendable. The coins never leave your address, so you can pay the swap deposit straight from a wallet that is delegated, and whatever stays behind keeps its delegation without any unbonding period.

Staking rewards are a separate matter. They sit in a reward account linked to your stake key, not in your spendable balance, so they are only included in the swap if you withdraw them first. Your wallet has a withdraw option for this; recent Cardano rules ask for a governance vote delegation on the stake key before that withdrawal goes through, and the wallet guides you through it.

Keep in mind that rewards are based on snapshots of your stake. Sending part of the balance into this swap means later snapshots see a smaller amount, which lowers future rewards on that part only.

Cardano wallets cannot hold XMR, so you need a Monero wallet before you start. Feather on desktop, Cake Wallet on a phone or the official Monero GUI all work; our Monero wallet comparison helps you choose. Write the seed down when the wallet is created, because nothing else can restore it.

Copy the receiving address from the wallet and paste it into the payout field. It is 95 characters long. Addresses beginning with 4 are the wallet's primary address, and addresses beginning with 8 are subaddresses that your wallet can generate whenever you like. Every subaddress pays into the same balance, so using a new one for this swap costs nothing and stops your Cardano-funded payout from sharing an address with anything else.

An addr1 string pasted into the Monero field is rejected, and so is a Monero address in the Cardano sender field. If the form complains, check that each address went into the right box.

Once your ADA deposit has confirmed, most swaps finish within minutes. The XMR then appears in your Monero wallet as incoming. Before you can move it on, the Monero network waits for 10 confirmations, about 20 minutes, a lock that applies to every received output on the chain.

Unlike a Cardano payment, a Monero transfer is invisible to anyone searching an explorer for your address, because the receiver and amount are hidden. The status page shows that the payout was sent, and your wallet is where you confirm it arrived. Let the wallet sync fully first. If you restored it from a seed, its restore height must be set to a date before the swap, otherwise the wallet skips the block with your payment and shows a zero balance until you rescan.

The Cardano address you enter as the sender also serves as the refund address. If a swap cannot be completed, the coins are refunded to the sender address you entered. Use an addr1 address from a wallet you control. An exchange withdrawal arrives from an address the exchange owns, and ADA refunded to it may never show up in your balance.

Keep the swap ID. Its status page tracks your ADA deposit and then the XMR payout, and Cardanoscan shows your side of the transfer. If the deposit has confirmed on Cardano yet the status stays the same for a long while, forward the swap ID plus the Cardano transaction hash to support@ghostswap.io. Do not resend the ADA in the meantime, since a second payment would be treated as another deposit.

Cardano is fully transparent. Cardanoscan lists every payment an address made, its token holdings, the pool it delegates to and its reward history, and the stake key ties many addresses of the same wallet together. For someone who wants part of their holdings out of that public record, Monero is the natural destination: each transfer conceals who paid, who received and how much, by default. There is no wrapped Monero on Cardano and no bridge between the two networks, so a swap is the direct route. XMR has also become harder to find on large exchanges, a trend tracked on the Monero delistings page, which leads many ADA holders to swap directly instead.
