Why trade Circle's USDC for Tether on Solana
The usual reason is the other side of a deal. Many peer-to-peer offers, invoices and payment requests on Solana are quoted in USDT, and someone holding USD Coin on Ethereum has to match that exactly. Paying in the wrong stablecoin, or on the wrong chain, leaves the recipient to convert it themselves.

USDC sent from a layer-2 or a sidechain travels on a different network and does not match the deposit.
In MetaMask, Rabby or Ledger Live, check that the network selector reads Ethereum before you send. The transfer needs ETH for gas on the same address; the amount depends on how busy Ethereum is at that moment, not on the size of the payment.

Getting the Solana payout address right
The field for the Tether needs a Solana address: 32 to 44 base58 characters with no 0x. Wallets such as Phantom hold Ethereum and Solana side by side and show a separate address for each, so make sure you copy the Solana one. Solflare and a Ledger with the Solana app work as well.
Paste the wallet's main address. Solana stores each token in a token account linked to it, and the USDT appears there without any setup on your side. The payout's Solana fee is part of the quote, so nothing needs to be in the wallet beforehand.
Genuine Tether on Solana uses the SPL mint Es9vMFrzaCERmJfrF4H2FYD4KCoNkY11McCe8BenwNYB. Copycat tokens with the same ticker exist, so if you check on ソルスキャン, open the payout transaction from your status page instead of searching by name.

If the person you are paying accepts USD Coin, USDC ERC20 to USDC SOL keeps the issuer the same. If they want Tether but on Ethereum, use USDCからUSDT ERC20への変換. Pick the row that matches what the receiving side actually accepts; a near miss means paying for a second conversion later.
Holding Tether on Solana: freezes and fees
USDT is a different token from the USDC you started with, and it comes with Tether's rules. Tether can freeze USDT held at a particular address; that power is part of the token on every chain where it is issued, Solana included. Circle holds a similar power over USDC, so this is not a reason to prefer one, just something to know.
To move the USDT later you need SOL for the network fee, plus a small rent deposit the first time you send to an address that has never held USDT. A wallet holding only Tether is stuck until some SOL arrives. A small separate USDC 〜へ SOL swap to the same Solana address solves that in one go.

Refund address, tracking and help
You give an Ethereum sender address before you pay, and that is the one refunds use. If a swap cannot be completed, the coins are refunded to the sender address you entered. For that reason, send from MetaMask, Rabby or a Ledger rather than an exchange withdrawal, whose return path you do not control.
The swap ID opens a status page that shows each stage. Etherscan shows the USDC deposit by its hash, and Solscan shows the USDT payout when it goes out.
