ETH to FDUSD: Swap Ethereum to First Digital USD on BNB Smart Chain

ETH to FDUSD trades the volatile coin of Ethereum for First Digital USD, a stablecoin built to track the US dollar. People do it to lock in a dollar value after a move in ETH, or to hold a stable balance on a network where later transfers usually cost less than on Ethereum. On this pair the FDUSD is paid on BNB Smart Chain as a BEP-20 token.

So the swap changes two things at once: the asset, from ETH to a dollar token, and the network, from Ethereum to BNB Smart Chain. Your address can stay the same, because both chains use the 0x format, but the balance lives on the new chain.

FDUSD is a centrally issued token, and its issuer can freeze FDUSD at an address. That is a feature of the stablecoin, shared with other issued dollar tokens, and it has no link to how the swap runs.

ETH on BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum or Base shares the same 0x address but sits on another network, and sending it here means the swap cannot see it. Check that MetaMask or Rabby says Ethereum before you confirm. Gas for the deposit is paid in ETH on top of the amount, and the transaction confirms in about 2 to 5 minutes on Etherscan.

On the receiving side, the fee coin changes. Moving FDUSD on BNB Smart Chain costs BNB, not ETH and not FDUSD. If the payout address has never been used on BNB Smart Chain, it holds no BNB, and the stablecoin stays put until you add a small amount.

Plan the BNB before you need to spend or send the FDUSD. A swap such as ETH 〜へ BNB is one way to put gas on that chain.

The address row looks reassuring, since both sides say 0x. That similarity is exactly why this pair confuses people: the same string points to two separate balances on two networks. The fee row is the other change to plan for. ETH has always paid your gas on Ethereum, but on BNB Smart Chain only BNB does. Keep both rows in mind when you check the payout. Look at BscScan, not Etherscan, and make sure BNB is waiting at the address before you try to move the FDUSD anywhere.
