## The math: price times supply

A coin's market cap is its price multiplied by the coins in circulation. So a price target is really a market-cap target.

- **From the 2026 high** of $1,653.12 on 27 September (CoinGecko daily price): about 6 times that price.

- **From ZEC's highest market cap so far,** about $28.0 billion on 27 September 2026 (CoinGecko): about 6 times that size.

Big moves have happened before, in both directions. On CoinGecko's figures, ZEC rose about 8.4 times from 8 March to 27 September 2026. It also fell 72% between November 2025 and March 2026, and 99.5% from its 2016 high to its 2024 low. Past moves don't tell you the next one.

## What would need to go right: facts for

- **ETF demand.** Grayscale's Zcash ETF (ZCSH) began trading on 25 August 2026. Grayscale says it gathered more than $1 billion in its first 30 trading days (The Block, 7 October 2026). A Winklevoss-backed sponsor filed for a second Zcash ETF on 6 October (proposed ticker WINK, 0.25% fee), and Bitwise has also filed.

- **Capped supply.** About 81% of the 21 million ZEC is already issued. The next halving is expected around 23 November 2028 under current rules (z.cash).

- **More shielded use.** 4,961,185 ZEC sat in shielded pools on 15 October 2026, about 29% of supply (z.cash network page). The Block counted 4.5 million on 29 October 2025.

- **Ongoing development.** ZODL, formed by former Electric Coin Co. engineers, raised $25 million in March 2026. The Ironwood upgrade added a new shielded pool on 28 July 2026. Developers aim to add quantum-resistant signatures in January, with no activation date set (CoinDesk, 9 October 2026).

## What stands in the way: facts against

- **Size.** ZEC would need to pass BNB, XRP and Solana and sit just behind Tether.

- **Regulation.** From 10 July 2027, EU banks and crypto service providers may not keep accounts that use privacy coins, ZEC included. South Korea, Dubai and the Philippines already bar the exchanges they regulate from handling them. - **Volatility and leverage.** ZEC futures open interest was about $2.3 billion on 4 September 2026 (CoinDesk). Leveraged rallies can unwind fast; ZEC fell about 11% in the week to 8 October.

- **Protocol risk.** A flaw that could let an attacker create counterfeit ZEC in the Orchard shielded pool went unfound from May 2022 to May 2026. It was patched in June 2026.

- **Funding after 2028.** The current development funding model runs until around the next halving (z.cash).

- **Competition.** Monero hides every transaction by default. About 71% of ZEC sat outside the shielded pools on 15 October 2026.
