## About Monero

Monero (XMR) is a privacy coin: every transaction hides the sender, the receiver and the amount by default, using ring signatures, one-time stealth addresses and RingCT. A new block arrives about every 2 minutes.

Monero has no hard supply cap. After the main emission ended in May 2022, a permanent "tail emission" of 0.6 XMR per block began, which keeps miners paid and adds a small, shrinking percentage of new supply each year.

Coinbase does not list XMR, and several large exchanges removed it in some regions in 2024 (Binance worldwide, Kraken in the European Economic Area). That is why many people get Monero by swapping another coin for it instead of buying it on an exchange.
