LTC to DRIFT: Exchange Litecoin for the Drift SPL Token

Litecoin and Solana share almost nothing under the hood. Litecoin is a proof-of-work chain that copies Bitcoin's design: coins sit in unspent outputs, a new block arrives about every 2.5 minutes, and addresses start with ltc1, L or M. DRIFT is not a coin with its own chain at all. It is an SPL token that lives on Solana, the governance token of the Drift protocol.

That means the LTC you send and the DRIFT you get never touch the same network. The swap does the crossing for you: LTC goes in on Litecoin, and DRIFT comes out on Solana to the address you paste. No bridge sits in between and no wrapped Litecoin is created anywhere.

The practical upshot is two separate wallets. Your Litecoin wallet, such as Nexus Wallet, Exodus or a Ledger, handles the deposit. A Solana wallet handles the payout. Have both ready before you open the exchange box, because the form asks for an address on each side.

Send plain LTC on the Litecoin network to the one-time deposit address. The network fee for that transaction is paid in LTC by your wallet, on top of the amount you enter, so keep a small remainder in the wallet rather than sending every last coin.

Litecoin makes a block roughly every 2.5 minutes, and the deposit counts after about 10 minutes of confirmations. Until then the rate keeps floating with the market. You can follow the transaction on Blockchair by pasting its hash.

The sender field wants the Litecoin address the coins really leave from. Any of the three regular formats works: ltc1 for native SegWit, M for wrapped SegWit and L for legacy. Coins held in Litecoin's MWEB privacy extension use a different, much longer address type, so move them back to a regular address before you start. An address from your own wallet is also the right choice because that is where a refund would go.

Expect a mix of upper- and lower-case letters and digits, 32 to 44 long, with no 0x anywhere in front. Phantom, Solflare and Ledger all show one on their receive screen, and the same address takes SOL and every SPL token, DRIFT included. Copy it and paste it whole; do not type it out.

The most common slip on this pair is the clipboard. You copy your Litecoin address for the sender field, then paste it again in the payout field. A Litecoin address cannot receive a Solana token, so check that the payout entry has no ltc1, L or M at the start.

You do not need SOL in the wallet for the DRIFT to arrive. You will need a little SOL later, though, because every move on Solana pays its fee in SOL. Sending, staking or trading the DRIFT all stop until the wallet holds some. If you have none, the LTC naar SOL pair covers that in a separate swap.

Of all six rows, fees trip up the most DRIFT holders. On the Litecoin side, LTC pays for itself. On the Solana side, DRIFT is a token, so its fees come out of a different coin, SOL, that has to sit next to it in the wallet. A Ledger can hold both coins, but it still uses a separate Litecoin account and Solana account, each with its own address.

The exchange box quotes the DRIFT amount you receive for the LTC you type, after fees. The rate comes from aggregated liquidity from leading crypto markets and floats until your LTC deposit has its confirmations. The box also shows this pair's minimum and maximum before you send.

Most of the waiting happens on Litecoin. Once the deposit confirms, most swaps finish within minutes, and Solana confirms the DRIFT payout in under a minute. Solscan shows it under your address, in the token list.
