Two fast ledgers, two very different address systems
Algorand and Hedera both settle in seconds, so the swap itself rarely waits on either chain. What catches people out is how each one names its accounts. Algorand derives a 58-character address from your key. Hedera gives every account a short number in three parts, such as 0.0.12345, and that number is what you paste here.
The reason to make this move is usually Hedera itself. HBAR pays fees on Hedera, is staked natively from the wallet, and is needed for Hedera apps and tokens. An Algorand holder who wants a foothold there gets native HBAR in one step, with no bridge and no wrapped copy.

The Hedera account ID and its traps
A Hedera account must exist before it can receive HBAR. In HashPack you create it first, and the wallet then shows its ID, such as 0.0.12345. Copy that ID into the payout field exactly.
Some wallets show the ID with a checksum suffix, for example 0.0.12345-abcde. Leave the suffix off. Hedera accounts also have a long 0x EVM address for use with smart contracts. Do not paste that either; this pair pays to the plain account ID.
An ID with one digit wrong may still belong to a real account, just not yours, and a payment to it cannot be pulled back. Check the number against your wallet digit by digit. You can also look it up on HashScan before you send, to confirm the account exists and matches.
Sending ALGO, and the HBAR memo field
The deposit is native ALGO from Pera, Defly or a Ledger, sent on Algorand mainnet. Algorand never forks, so a block is final the moment it is added, and the deposit is credited in under a minute. Your wallet pays a very small fee in ALGO.
Only ALGO itself starts the swap. Assets issued on Algorand, such as stablecoins, sit in the same account but are separate assets and do not count as this deposit. Pick ALGO in the wallet's asset list before you press send.
The form also has a memo field for the HBAR payout. With a personal wallet such as HashPack it stays empty. An exchange account usually gives you a memo; if yours did, copy it in exactly. On the deposit side, add a memo only if the deposit details show one.

Both networks are proof-of-stake and both reach finality without waiting for extra blocks, which is why this pair is one of the quicker crossings. The rows that need care are the address and the memo, because Hedera does it differently from almost every other chain. On each side the native coin pays its own network fees, so neither wallet needs a second token to work.
Staking the HBAR you receive
Once HashScan shows the payout, you can stake it from HashPack. Hedera's native staking does not move the HBAR out of your account and has no lock-up, so you can still spend or swap it whenever you want. Rewards are paid to the staking account.
Algorand has its own staking path, so some people keep part of their ALGO and move only the rest. The exchange box lets you swap any amount between the pair's minimum and maximum, which it shows before you send.
Remember the Algorand minimum balance when you size the deposit. Pera and Defly keep a small amount of ALGO in every account, so the largest amount you can send is slightly below the balance the wallet shows.
Rate, time and refunds
The box shows the HBAR you receive for the ALGO you enter, after fees, quoted from aggregated liquidity from leading crypto markets. The rate floats until your Algorand deposit confirms, which takes under a minute. After that, most swaps finish within minutes, and Hedera confirms the payout in a few seconds.
If a swap cannot be completed, the coins are refunded to the sender address you entered. Enter the address of the Pera or Defly account you actually send from, not one belonging to a trading platform.
